Internet connection gets 25 percent increase
Published September 28, 2011 General News , ITS , Network Status Leave a CommentInformation Technology Services has negotiated an agreement with its Internet service provider to increase the capacity of the University’s connection to the Internet by 25 percent, to 250 megabits per second. Most people will not notice a significant difference, but the additional bandwidth may provide a better experience for faculty, staff and students when using the Web and other Internet applications, especially during periods of peak use.
Use of the Internet by members of the W&L community has increased every year. ITS has made increasing use of network tools to help regulate use and ensure performance is not diminished during periods of peak use. Providing network resources to meet the growing needs of students, faculty and staff continues to be a top priority of ITS, and we’ll continue efforts to expand capabilities in this area.
Please remember that the campus network is a shared resource and is intended primarily for work purposes; see the W&L computing and network use policy: http://www.wlu.edu/x31425.xml
