More wireless enhancements in library

Information Technology Services  installed five additional wireless access points on the lower floors of Leyburn Library late last week in order to improve wireless service in time for this week’s exams for undergraduates.

One access point was installed in the foyer in front of Northen Auditorium, and one access point was installed on each of the lower level floors in the stacks area: LL1, LL2, LL3, and LL4.

Additional access points had been installed earlier, on Dec. 8, to improve wireless service on the main floor of Leyburn Library.

Web performance

Many users of the W&L network continue to experience very short interruptions to Web service, despite several attempts by Information Technology Services to address the issue. The problem often surfaces in the afternoon, when network traffic peaks on campus, and a blank page or “Page Not Found” message results when you click on a Web link. Re-loading the page (Ctrl-R on many Web browsers) usually solves the problem.

ITS is continuing to work with its vendors to resolve the problem as quickly as possible; we regret the inconvenience caused by this issue. Please contact the Information Desk (help@wlu.edu or 540-458-4357) with any questions or concerns.

Web performance

A network device was re-started about 6 a.m. today in an attempt to address a periodic problem with Web pages failing to appear. This was the latest of a series of attempts by Information Technology Services to address the problem, which is usually resolved by reloading the page (Ctrl-R on many Web browsers).

If you continue to see blank Web pages when clicking on links, please report the problem to the Information Desk (help@wlu.edu or x4357).
