Description of e-mail problems Jan. 21-26

A series of problems have been reported concerning messages from W&L faculty and staff e-mail accounts to undergraduate students. Those problems are believed to be fixed as of 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.

 The problems included:

  • Some undergraduates did not see messages sent to them by faculty and staff between Thursday, Jan. 21 and Tuesday, Jan. 26 because those messages were classified as spam and placed in a “junk” e-mail folder by Outlook Live, which provides W&L-branded e-mail service for students. Information Technology Services staff have worked with Microsoft to resolve the problem.
  • E-mails sent by faculty and staff to undergraduates were delayed from about 12:30-6:30 p.m.  on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The delay was the result of an error by ITS when troubleshooting the first issue. The delayed messages were delivered at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
